Abstract:
This study assessed acid and alkaline phosphatase activities and the mineralisation index in oral fluid during orthodontic treatment in children with endemic fluorosis. Twenty-five children aged 6–7 years were examined: the main group (n=13) received a therapeutic and preventive complex alongside dental treatment and professional oral hygiene; the comparison group (n=12) received standard measures. Measurements were obtained at baseline, before bracket placement, and at 1, 6 and 12 months. At one year, acid phosphatase activity in the main group decreased by 56.3 %, while mean alkaline phosphatase activity increased by 78.0 % from baseline. The mineralisation index increased from 0.94 to 3.86 arbitrary units, whereas the comparison-group value was 0.79. Comprehensive supportive care was associated with favourable enzymatic trajectories; their clinical significance requires further confirmation.
