Annotation Studied the serum levels of the inflammatory interleukins, C-reactive protein, monocyte hemoattractant protein-1 in the 1st and 10th days after lacunar strokes in patients with normal body weight and with abdominal obesity class II. Abdominally obese patients, in comparison with normal body weight patients, have enhanced postischemic inflammatory response during acute lacunar strokes – significant serum increase of C-reactive protein (21,7±5,2 mg/l vs. 7,1±1,4 mg/l, p <0.05), tumor necrosis factor-α (19,0±4,3 pg/ml vs. 8,0±2,0 pg/ml, p <0.05), interleukin-1β (3,0±1,0 pg/ml vs. 0,5±0,3 pg/ml, p<0.05), interleukin-6 (14,3±3,4 pg/ml vs 5,5±1,1 pg/ml, p<0.05). The above mentioned changes may be responsible for insufficient functional recovery after lacunar strokes in abdominally obese patients.
