Annotation The number of drug-dependent patients is steadily increasing throughout the world. There is no exception to Ukraine, the statistics presented in the United Nations Office of Drug and Crime (UNODC) global report show that one million adults in Ukraine account for 43 drug-related deaths. Since the influence of different groups of drugs of the most common drugs on the state of the oral cavity, and in particular of periodontal tissues has not been sufficiently studied at present, the aim of our work was to study the prevalence and structure of periodontal disease in drug addicted patients depending on the group of narcotic substance and the duration of taking this drug. After examination of 56 patients of drug addicts, registered periodontal diseases, poor oral hygiene, rapid progression of pathological changes in periodontia with continuous drug use, and the prevalence of ulcerative-necrotic changes in the development of inflammatory and dystrophic process in hypnotic individuals. Such a state of periodontium of addicts, the level of individual hygiene of the oral cavity requires a special tactic of their supervision by a dentist in close cooperation with the narcologist. The data we have received coincide with the results of IA Furdichko studies. In persons who were not addicted to drugs and did not have associated pathologies, chronic generalized catarrhal gingivitis and chronic generalized periodontitis of the primary and І-ІІ degrees were much less frequent than drug addicts. The presence of hepatobiliary pathology in addicted patients increases the risk of periodontal disease [7]. According to VM Zubachik during biochemical studies of oral liquid drug addicts and non-addictive patients with chronic generalized periodontitis, showed a significant deviation of the data of pH to the acid side and decrease the rate of salivation in drug addicts. Decreased activity of catalase and increased TBK-active products in the oral liquid of drug addicted patients, as well as a significant decrease in their antioxidant-prooxidant index values, indicating weakening of antioxidant oral cavity protection [8-10]. The results of the conducted studies indicate that with high activity of the pathological process in the hepatobiliary system signs of lesions of parodontium in drug addicted patients are more pronounced [7]. Thus, in all the drug users we surveyed, we have registered periodontal diseases, poor oral hygiene, rapid progression of pathological changes in periodontia with constant drug intake, and the prevalence of ulcerative-necrotic changes in the development of inflammatory-dystrophic process in hypnotic patients . Such a state of periodontium of addicts, the level of individual hygiene of the oral cavity requires a special tactic of their supervision by a dentist in close cooperation with the narcologist. Formation of positive motivation of a patient for the elimination of drug dependence not only prevents the complication of the development of periodontal diseases, but also requires an individual, differentiated complex periodontal treatment, taking into account the term of drug addiction, the type of drug use, the state of somatic and mental health.
